Part 11 -  Tete – a – Tete with God                June 8, 2004.

( THIS ABOVE ALL, TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE!  This line kept coming to me and I knew that I had to start a discourse on this.)

God: This above all, to thine own self be true! What words of wisdom, with such a deep connotation – but the true meaning is lost to most of you ! Does this mean you have to be completely without untruth, without being selfish, only thinking of the welfare of another,without uttering words of anger,without being totally judgemental ?  NO ! It does not mean any of these ! You may, at times speak an untruth if it does not harm another, you may give vent to your anger, you may be judgemental and critical at times, but with all this you also have to be aware and know and acknowledge that you have done all this, truthfully and honestly, without any ‘buts’ or ‘ifs’, taking full responsibility for it, and then, instead of burying it deep down, analyse  ‘why’ you thought, spoke and acted the way you did, work it out threadbare till you get to the root of the “ulcer” which triggered the symptoms you went through. This is being ”true” to yourself.

So many times, children, you have acted like martyrs, trying to sacrifice for the sake of another, or went all out to lend a helping hand, but, not with a total desire to put another’s need before yours. If at that moment you were to truly analyse your action, you would find that somewhere inside you there is your friend, the ego, hiding thievishly behind your so-called “good” façade ! The intention is not fully to help but to appear so, and thereby, present to the world-- what you are not.!,

There are also some of you who wish to appear pious and spiritual; huge amounts are spent towards building temples and grand structures to house deities; even hospitals are built to nurse the sick and the ailing – all this is good, my friend, provided it is done with love and with a  true intention to help; but once again, lurking inside is the secret  desire to bring out  your “name” and “fame”. To top it all, this desire is so neatly packed and buried deep within, that the person literally glows with the thought that he has indeed been ‘Oh  so noble and charitable’ and exhibits a lot of humility and sympathy ! This, my dear, is being totally “untrue to yourself”. If, after doing this, you were to honestly recognize and accept within yourself that all that you have done is not out of a feeling of humanity and generosity, but mainly to satisfy your ego by way of showing the world ‘what you are not’, then that would at least  be your saving grace !  My child, if you can be dishonest with yourself, how then can you be honest with another ? Give a deep thought to this, my children, and admit to yourselves how many times, in things big and small, you have all tried to portray that which you are not ! Why my dears, why do you need to do this ? Your need comes out of your very deep feeling of self-worthlessness, which in turn is felt because of your compulsion to compare yourself with another – to shine out and go a head above your neighbour ! Why all this compulsion, my friend ? Because all of you have forgotten your Source, your Divinity, your Oneness, and are living separately, almost compartmentally in your own little nests. If you all lived as  “one”, my child, you would feel “joy” and “pride” in the rise of another because in his growth, is your growth.

As I have mentioned in one of my earlier discourses, you are all branches and little twigs of the same gigantic tree ! If there is decay in any one part of the tree, the branches all around it also start decaying until the entire tree is effected . Likewise, if each part of this tree is gently nurtured, then each and every branch and twig will glow and become more and more healthy, and the whole tree will bloom in its full glory !                                                                                 - 2 –

Now you see, my child, what the Divine Plan is – how each one of you has sprung from one  single root and are still multiplying and dividing and yet not a single little twig is left un-nourished or neglected or made to feel insignificant? Why then, my children, do you feel worthless and unimportant? Each one of you, my child, is as beloved  and important to Me as are your Ascended Masters and Guides, because, once again remember, you are all “One”, so you are  no less in My esteem, than Them!

Now with this in mind, strive every moment, with every thought, word and action to be “true” to yourself, because there is no need for you to be otherwise if you only know and live constantly in the thought that you are part of the Divine Plan, Divine Will and Divine Purpose! My dear one, you must have found Me rather harsh this time, but do not take it as an admonition; take it as an appeal from Me to change this Self-deceit into Self-awareness, Self-realisation and Self-truth !

PSW: My dear True and Faithful Friend, for indeed You are that! Only a true friend will come out openly and show the negative side of the one he loves because he  loves truly.! My God, I do admit, though sheepishly, that we are all guilty of this at one time or the other because, as You say, we all still work with ego. From now on, I will try on all occasions to think, speak and act out of Truth, and I ask You, my Friend, to be by my side to help in this.
